Having seen numerous profile pictures of guys using their smart-phones to take a picture of themselves in a mirror, I had the idea of showing a guy doing the same thing... but in the 40's, and thus with an old style camera. Sure there wouldn't have been a website to put said picture on back in the 40's, but that's not the point - just roll with it.
Totally Honest Planet: this isn't my favorite piece. I don't hate it; wouldn't be sharing (let alone selling) it if I didn't think it was any good. It just didn't turn out the way I had envisioned it in my head. That said, I really love the concept of the piece. I researched the heck out of it to to be "accurate". The bathroom and mirror are based on old adds for bathrooms from the 40's. And I dressed the guy in 40's style underwear based on a sewing pattern from the time, and styled his hair accordingly.
