Curtis’s mustache game is so freaking en pointe – and I hope I did it justice in this painting. I meet Curtis on an app some years ago, was drawn in by his (mustache and) over all cuteness, but quickly bonded with him talking about “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and was super happy to have found him in other social media to get to know him better.
I'm not sure what it is about this painting but as I worked on it, I really struggled not seeing only flaws. I'm certain I'm not the only artist who this happens to. You know the old saying, we are "our own worst critic" and all that. But after fighting with it for a while, I forced myself to call it done. And now that I've had some time to live with the painting, I've actually grown quite fond of it. The likeness is stronger than I was giving myself credit for, and even subtle details like his tattoos and the leathery texture of what he's laying on really worked out nicely.
