This is a photo of me playing Nicely Nicely Johnson in a production of Guys & Dolls.

If I weren’t making the visual arts my primary career goal, I would probably be making an effort in the performing arts. I love musical theatre... and I’m gay, what are the chances! My husband and I have even tried putting together our own community theatre group called 5th Season Entertainment for which I designed the logo.

So far we’ve only produced 4 shows, each one being a little better than the one before it. Unfortunately we had to take an indefinite break, primarily for financial reasons but also because we, and our handful of cohorts, were getting burned out doing all the work ourselves. We hope to reinstate the group again someday.

One of our goals with 5th Season was to do things differently than your traditional community theatre. Typically a community theatre’s poster is just a black and white image… maybe printed on a coloured paper at best. Also the artwork is either weak, or they simply used the original logo. For all our shows I designed an all-new logo and did a full colour painting to be our show’s posters. When it worked, I’d even make sure to use the performers from our production’s likenesses in the poster. It meant more expensive printing, but it made our productions a little more special than your standard community theatre production.

In the gallery you’ll find the posters from our 4 productions as well as a handful of other shows we hope to produce, including a musical nativity my hubby and I wrote and assembled together, back when we were only dating.
